Of course, you’ll find Danish smørrebrød in Sweden’s most beautiful food hall. Smørrebrød is delicious toppings on hearty Danish rye bread – food at its most delightful. At Nybroe, they work with Danish suppliers, they follow Danish recipes, and theyb have a genuine ambition to serve and deliver authentic Danish smørrebrød.

With the right bread as a base, smørrebrød can become a canvas for variety, flavour, and creativity. The best part is choosing between all the delicate options. Freshly peeled shrimp. Breaded plaice or roast beef with Danish remoulade. Or why not try the luxurious caviar?

Here, you can enjoy the Danish lunch all day long – smørrebrød for every occasion, paired with a cold beer and schnapps.

From Danish heritage to Swedish success

The father of smørrebrød, Oskar Davidsen, was a wine merchant in Copenhagen who began serving open-faced sandwiches to his customers in the late 1800s. His smørrebrød soon became more popular than his wine, and in 1888 he opened his “smørrebrødsforretning” in Nørrebro – the same year Östermalmshallen opened.

Jarmo Tammisto founded Nybroe, and since 2004, he has been selling smørrebrød in Östermalm’s Food Hall. Today, the business is run by Vincent Vintilescu, who – with a steady hand – keeps the Danish culinary heritage alive in Sweden’s most historic food hall.
